our roots

where we come from

After only one trip to Haiti in 2010, Teri-Ann's heart was captured by the children, the country and the culture of Haiti. The chaos and peace. The energy and the island atmosphere. And the people? The kids are so beautiful and so full of life. Teri-Ann could not deny the belief that God was calling her to do more in Haiti - including going back to school, and eventually moving to Haiti full time.

In 2016, Teri-Ann received her Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation, specializing in mental health and child/adolescent development, became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist soon after. By 2018, Teri-Ann had traveled to Haiti a total of 8 times, with trips ranging between 10 and 90 days, and was invited to join Middle Ground Haiti - a malnutrition treatment centre in Thomassin, Haiti. Teri-Ann accepted the offer, and officially made the transition to living in Haiti full time, creating a therapy program from the roots up.

She is currently practicing recreation therapy in Miami, FL, and reimagining what our impact can look like in the current situation and coming years.

our mission is to support and provide therapeutic services for people in haiti - whether they are living with a mental or physical health condition - and for their families, to prevent and treat these conditions, and help them find healing and health.

we value:

  • reciprocity in our working relationships

  • focusing on the strengths of the individual - not just what they are struggling with

  • inclusiveness - ensuring we are accessible, and that we respect and value differences just as much as similarities, and see each other as equals, regardless of circumstances

  • high quality services, using best practices for every service we provide, and continually improving our standards and quality

  • cooperative and collaborative partnerships with local/established people and organizations

  • open and honest communication within multidisciplinary teams

  • education, ongoing training, and sharing the knowledge and skills we have
